There is a conventional list of nine signs which may be found in any living being:nourishment, breathing, excretion, growth, evolution, mortality, reproduction, heredity, and sentience. However, sometimes we can see inanimate nature meeting these criteria as well. Furthermore, the number of these features may vary depending on what scientific sources we consult. Note that what guarantees survival in one situation may prove useless in another. Thus, seeking to establish the vitality of any particular being, we cannot rely on the analytical method.
